Senior Payroll & Compliance Specialist

• Own and manage the U.S. compliance calendar for payroll and compliance obligations.
• Run two payroll cycles, weekly and bi-weekly, handling changes for a large hourly workforce.
• Audit pre-process registers before funding and resolve discrepancies with payroll partner.
• Own the U.S. compliance calendar through annual filings and legislative changes.
• Conduct background check reviews and quarterly health exclusion checks.
• Lead the annual 'Compliance Refresh' and partner on policy reviews.
• Design internal controls for payroll and compliance, maintaining an evidence trail.
• Build and test automation to improve payroll processes.

Experience

• 5–8 years of experience in payroll and compliance, including 3+ years running multi-state U.S. payroll.
• Experience with enterprise HRIS like Paylocity for multi-state payroll.
• Experience owning a compliance calendar covering various reporting and testing requirements.
• Direct experience with California or New York employment law is a strong plus.
• Ability to convert legal redlines into practical policies.
• Proven ability to improve processes and create SOPs.
• Strong communication skills to explain payroll and compliance details.

Salary and Perks

Pay range: $93K - $124K
